this summer's Colorado state legislative session has been passed that made it illegal for sheriffs within 50 miles to refuse to remove illegal immigrants from detention on behalf of US federal ICE authorities.
Lawsuits and pressure has made Sheriffs and US Congress Members react with some level of anxiety and consternation, perhaps anticipating more similar actions may soon become permissible, if legislators pass additional laws restricting this practice that may require new federal cooperation such as a nationwide court decision similar to the case in California where all immigrants in contempt could later sue within the scope

That law's backers claimed it did so only for protecting police officers and county court residents with serious mental conditions with which law enforcement officers are generally at risk (there can also be a national "standards, safety, and privacy for all" component included under that law )
